    Botanly ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over it.

📋 Data We Collect

We collect the following information when you use Botanly:

Account information

Email address and display name (used to create and identify your account)
Password (stored as a secure hash — we never see it in plain text)

Plant data

Plant names, species, watering schedules, and care notes you enter
Photos of your plants that you upload for identification or health checks
AI-generated care recommendations and health check history

AI assistant conversations

Messages you send to the plant assistant (stored per plant, per account)
Photos attached to chat messages (up to 5 per day)

Subscription and billing

Subscription status, plan type, and renewal dates (managed by Apple App Store or Stripe)
We do not store credit card numbers or payment details — these are handled entirely by Apple or Stripe

Preferences and settings

Notification preferences, quiet hours, language, and theme settings

⚙️ How We Use Your Data

To provide the app's core features: plant tracking, watering reminders, AI identification, and health checks
To authenticate you and keep your data synced across your devices
To send push notifications and email reminders for plant care (only if you opt in)
To deliver AI-powered responses from the plant assistant
To verify and manage your premium subscription
To improve the reliability and performance of the service

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

🔗 Third-Party Services

Botanly uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, file storage, and cloud functions. Firebase Privacy Policy

RevenueCat — subscription management on iOS. RevenueCat Privacy Policy

Stripe — payment processing on the web. Stripe Privacy Policy

OpenAI / AI provider — plant identification, health analysis, and chat responses. Photos and questions you submit are sent to an AI model to generate responses. They are not used to train AI models on your personal data.

📷 Photos and Images

Photos you upload are stored in Firebase Storage and associated with your account. They are used exclusively to:

Identify plant species
Analyse plant health
Display your plant in the app

Photos sent to the AI assistant are transmitted to the AI provider for analysis and are not permanently retained by the AI service beyond the scope of the request.

You can delete any plant (along with its photos) at any time from within the app.

🔔 Notifications

Botanly can send you:

Push notifications — watering reminders delivered to your device. You can enable or disable these in the app's Settings screen or in your device's system settings.
Email reminders — watering reminders sent by email. You can toggle these on or off in the app's Settings screen at any time.

We do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent.

🗄️ Data Retention

Your data is stored for as long as your account is active. If you delete a plant, its data and photos are permanently removed. If you wish to delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at support@botanly.tech and we will process the request within 30 days.

👦 Children's Privacy

Botanly is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

⚖️ Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and data
Object to or restrict certain processing
Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

🔒 Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase Security Rules to restrict data access to authenticated owners, and secure credential handling. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

📝 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
